CUNY Right-Wing Studies Working Group
The CUNY Right-Wing Studies Working Group is a group seeking to take critical & interdisciplinary approaches to foundational texts of the New Right. Pairing writings of right-wing intellectuals with critical secondary texts from the fields of affect theory, postcolonial studies, and psychoanalysis, the group will pursue deeper understanding of the networked discourse binding the New Right today. We approach these readings with a particular hypothesis: to make literary theory more actionable, and political theory more aesthetic. Following Eve Sedgwick’s paranoid and reparative methods of reading, the guiding question will be:
“What does knowledge do – the pursuit of it, the having and exposing of it, the receiving again of knowledge of what one already knows? How, in short, is knowledge performative, and how best does one move among its causes and effects?”
